Open Hard Drive

The open drive is always a headache for the data recovery technician. Doesn’t matter either it was an unprofessional intrusion by curious user or a recovery attempt in some professional data recovery. Most of such cases are related to so-called ‘second opinion’ recovery try.
If you have an open drive for recovery, be ready for the ‘tampered drive fee’ that is paid upfront, i.e. before any service starts and is non-refundable regardless the recovery result.
Technically, the ‘tampered drive fee’ is a premium that is collected to cover the technician’s time and lab’s resources utilized for unrecoverable projects. In other words, it is a payment for checking if the open drive is recoverable or not.
DataLab247 won’t charge tampered drive fee for open drive with the obvious signs of non-recover-ability (visually noticeable scratches on the surface and ‘black’ air-filter inside the drive). If that is the case then we do not proceed with the recovery, and will advise the customer of the drive's state accordingly.

  1. Bear in mind the fact that most companies do not offer firm price before ESTIMATION which involves the internal inspection of device. You may face the situation when the estimation price is exceeding your budget to continue with that company, but moving to the other specialist with the already open drive will make the situation even worse because of the complications related to the open hard drive.
